Being disciples - A people transformed

Yesterday, we were looking at what it means for us Being Disciples. It was the third in our series looking at the three key aspects of our vision that we want to shape us as a church and as the people of God: we are worshippers, we are missionaries, we are disciples.

In this letter from Paul to the church in Corinth there are a few references which have a powerful impact when we take time to understand the historical context. When Paul says we are part of Christ's triumphal procession, borrowing the image of a victorious general returning home from a battle, with his army and treasure behind him; Paul is saying that we should walk with honour as followers of Jesus, because He has won the victory and we now belong to Him!

He also says that we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ. Just as they would add incense to burnt sacrificial offerings to make them smell nicer, we are able to have the distinctive fragrance of Christ both to God and to those around us because Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice once and for all.

Having this knowledge of God and being in relationship with Him means that we can have confidence in Christ throughout our lives, wearing the distinctive fragrance of peace, patience, hope and joy even when things are tough. May we grow in the knowledge and confidence of Christ this week, being disciples who are a sweet smelling aroma!👃🏻
