Entering God’s Presence

It was great to round up the month with another 6:30 service as Alex led us in thinking about entering God's presence and what stops us. Just like sitting around a campfire, it can often feel like you're always the one getting smoke in your eyes and it's really difficult to get close to the fire because of that smoke, what things in our lives stop us from entering the presence of God?

For some people, it's about feelings and being in a certain mood. But relying on our emotions can mean we always feel like God's not there in our lowest moments, when we're "not in the mood." This verse in Matthew reminds us of the truth that if we seek God, we will find Him! Just like a fire is obvious and available, so is God. He's there and He's inviting us to come.

We can also feel like we're not worthy to come into His presence because of our sin, and on our own. We're not! But the great news is that Jesus made a way to remove that sin from us. Just like the smoke coming out of the fire and getting in our eyes, the consequence of sin is that it cuts us off from God, but through his death and resurrection Jesus removed that barrier, so now we can approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:14-16) and come into His presence.🔥
